Breakfast for the BrainAs the name suggests, breakfast means breaking your overnight fasting period. As a result, our body is digesting the food we ate that day. The liver breaks down glycogen and releases it into the bloodstream to keep blood sugar levels stable. So, when you wake up, you body has gone hours without food and is in need of a replenished supply of glycogen to boost energy levels and alertness. This is extremely important for the brain, which relies almost entirely on glucose. Not only is breakfast important in the short term, but in the long term, it can help with better weight management, reduced risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Tips for a Nutrient-Rich BreakfastBreakfast foods are also rich in essential nutrients, such as folate, calcium, iron, B vitamins and fiber. People who eat breakfast are significantly more likely to meet their recommended daily intake of vitamins and minerals because of nutrient-packed breakfast foods!
