What is Mindful Eating?Oftentimes, food and dieting can bring up feelings of anxiety, issues with self-esteem and an provide an avenue for overthinking. Mindful eating is an exercise in mindfulness that has been proven to help individuals manage unhealthy habits, alleviate food anxiety, detach ourselves from external outcomes, tune into natural hunger and satiety cues, and most importantly encourage the enjoyment of the eating experience as we nourish and fuel our bodies. Technically speaking, mindful eating is a process-oriented and non-restrictive approach to eating that focuses on complete and total sensual awareness of food and the eating experience. The idea is to "savor the moment and the food" in order to tune in to the physiological processes fueling your body and recognize true hunger, satiety, and enjoyment regarding what you choose to nourish your body with each day. This process truly helps to ground individuals in the eating experience, and be present. With simple mindfulness techniques or guided meditations, mindful eating can be incorporated seamlessly into your everyday routine.
