By Emma Slattery, Student NutritionistAs a student nutritionist on a campus with Chipotle within walking distance this is one of the questions I get asked on a daily basis. Is Chipotle healthy? Luckily Chipotle is an amazing chain that gives customers a lot of freedom in creating a meal, meaning that your Chipotle most certainly can be healthy! Defining the criteria: "Healthy" is such a vague term so to narrow it down I use the MyPlate to build a healthy meal. 1/2 veggies, 1/4 lean proteins, 1/4 whole grains. A little bit of healthy fats fits in here well too! To make a MyPlate and healthful Chipotle meal and all the steps along the line:
And finally, while the Chipotle salad with lean proteins and vegetables is a very healthful option, it's still perfectly healthful to get a burrito filled with rice, sour cream, carnitas, cheese and guac- and eat it all. Just enjoy the latter option in moderation!
