Start With The BasicsThe grocery store can be an overwhelming experience, especially if you are unprepared. Before leaving your apartment, think about what you may want to eat and write it down- what will you want for breakfast? Do you have any recipes you want to make? One way to approach "building" a meal in the grocery store is focusing on three things- one protein source, one carbohydrate source, and one source of fiber/vegetables for each meal. This ensures that you are creating a full meal and not just buying foods to snack on that won't leave you feeling full and satisfied. Another thing to keep in mind as a college student, especially if you are on a budget is frozen food. It is important to keep in mind that some frozen foods have high sodium and fat content, however the freezer section of your grocery store is packed with frozen produce, which lasts longer and is cheaper, frozen protein sources such as turkey burger, shrimp, and chicken.
