Becky Handley, UMD Dietetic InternWith the weather warming up and Memorial Day just around the corner, it's the perfect time to start taking control of your health and adding more physical activity into your daily schedule. The Centers for Disease Control recommend adults ages 18 and older should aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity per day to help say healthy and lower your risk of chronic diseases (1). Not sure where to start? Think local! There are many free, exciting indoor and outdoor activities that are fun for friends and family right around your neighborhood.
You’re sure to break a sweat with all these activities, so it’s important to stay hydrated. Be sure to pack a reusable water bottle and drink up every chance you get. Whether it’s from the tap at home or from the local water fountain, free water refills are at your disposal anytime! Aim for a total of 8 cups (or 64 oz) each day to keep you feeling refreshed and energized. For more on-campus activities, visit UMD’s Campus Life page here!
