By Kira Bursaw, Dietetic Intern It’s that time of year again- the Farmers Market is back! This year it is being held at Tawes Plaza Garden, which is between the Tawes, Art-Soc, and Benjamin buildings on the west side of campus. Some of the great offerings this year include fresh cut flowers, local produce, meats, bread and other baked goods, coffee, wine, and products made with honey. Not only are the goods being sold amazing, but the vendors doing the selling are wonderful people as well. They are more than happy to chat about their products, the work they do, and how excited they are to be at our school. While you’re in the plaza, stop by the main information tent where they have a cooler of ice water and lots of recipes, as well as magazines and pamphlets about nearby farmers markets. At noon, Chef Larry holds a cooking demonstration of his latest creation, and if you stick around til the end, he lets you try samples! The last couple of weeks have seen a roasted corn and farro salad and a jalapeno cornbread. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it! After all that shopping, you might hungry for a hot meal, and you’re in luck because Green Tidings is parked right there. The line might seem a little long, but that’s just because the food is worth the wait. If you have a sweet tooth, there’s also a Maryland Dairy cart right next to the truck where you can grab a cup of freshly made ice cream. The market is open every Wednesday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Go check it out!
